Roy F. Dame, 74

U.S. Air Force veteran, cherished ‘Bestefar’

BREWER, Maine — Roy F. Dame, 74, husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Dame, died Sunday, January 16, 2022 at MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor, Maine, after a two-year battle with cancer.

He was born on November 15, 1947 in Chelsea, the son of Roy C. and Bjorg (Michelson) Dame.

Roy was a 1965 graduate of North Reading High School. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era in Guam and Korea, and eventually was stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor. Roy worked for UPS for 31 years, retiring in 2004. During his retirement years, Roy worked for Darlings in Bangor shuttling vehicles.

He was an avid golfer, and a lifelong New England sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox. Roy cherished his five grandchildren and being known as “Bestefar” to them.

Roy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty (Breau) Dame, of Brewer; his two daughters, Erica Dow and her husband, Jad, of Southwest Harbor, Maine, and Kristen Carrier and her husband, Ashley, of Groton; five grandchildren, Seth, Katie and Claire Dow, and Shane and Leah Carrier; one sister, Tone Crossman and her husband, Robert, of Plaistow, N.H.; his sister-in-law, Rhonda Ellis of Hermon, Maine, his brothers-in-law, Edward and his wife, Martha Breau, of Sebring, Fla., Frank and his wife, Connie Breau, of Brewer, Maine, and Tom Houston of Brewer, Maine; nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as family in Norway. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert Dame, his sister-in-law, Celeste (Breau) Houston, and his brother-in-law Robert Breau.

A celebration of life will be held on May 14, 2022. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Brewer. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
