MALDEN—The Melrose High girls’ basketball team celebrated their unpredictable and fun-filled season at a breakup banquet hosted at Exchange Street Bistro in Malden on Wednesday, March 16.

The team was honored by coaches Ralph Labella and Ashley Baldwin who credited the varsity team for securing their best record in nearly three years and winning the last 8 of 10 games to fall excruciatingly close to qualifying for playoffs.

The night was a wonderful chance to honor outgoing seniors captain Ella Brennan and Ava Burns.

All Star recognition was given to juniors Sofia Smith and Megan Casey. Players were also presented with team awards from head coach Bill Hirschfeld that included:

Coaches Award: Lily Kavanaugh

Coaches Award: Ella Brennan

6th Player Award: Lily Nolan

Offensive Award: Megan Casey

Unsung Hero: Chloe Gentile

MVP: Sofia Smith.

Melrose will return all five starters in 2022 and will be considered a team to beat in the Middlesex League.
