THIS STACK OF STONES or “cairn” sits along the side of the road on Vernon Street. Cairns are an art form also known as “rock balancing” or “stone stacking,” whereby rocks are naturally balanced on top of one another in various positions without the use of adhesives or any artificial means to maintain the construction’s balance. For the sharp-eyed, a second cairn can be seen in the background in the upper right. (Mark Sardella Photo)
