WILMINGTON — The Wakefield High outdoor boys’ track and field team picked up a victory in their first meet of the season when they defeated Wilmington 75-61 on Tuesday at Wilmington High.
The Warriors started off strong sweeping the 400 hurdles. James Christie ran a very fast time of 61.8 and won the event. Sophomore Joe Patt was second with a time of 64.2 and freshman Brody Wyatt was third with a time 65.8.
The Warriors then swept the mile. Ajay Haridasse was 1st in 4:39. Thomas Dowd was 2nd in 4:47. Sophomore Liam Taggart was 3rd in 4:59.
In the 110 hurdles, Matt Burns ran a very fast time of 16.7 for the win.
In the 100 meters, Ryan Tracy ran a 11.8 and was second.
In the 400 meters, Bradley Diaz ran a very fast time of 50.53 for the win. James Christie followed up his win in the hurdles with a 2nd place finish in 54.31.
Another sweep occurred in the 800 meters with Ben Stratton running a very fast season opening time of 1:59. Sophomore William Mezikofsky also ran a big PR of 2:06. Leith Jones ran a very solid time of 2:07.
The 2 mile also had the Warriors taking all three scoring positions with Mike Roberto in 1st in 11:07. Matt McCoy was 2nd in 11:17. Brett McLellan was 3rd in 11:20.
In the 200 meters, Lucas Kehoe was second with a time of 23.1. Jaden Blake was third with a time of 24.8.
Kehoe also went on to win the high jump with a jump of 6’0 and Anthony Arria was third with a jump of 5’4.
In the long jump, Kehoe was first with a jump of 20’1 and Javin Willis was third with a jump of 17’10.
In the javelin, Joe Patt was third with a throw of 120’5.
In the triple jump, Matt Burns was third with a jump of 39’1.
The 4×400 meter relay team of Haridasse, Patt, Stratton and Diaz won the event in 3:46.
The 1-0 Warriors will have their home opener on Tuesday, 4 p.m. at the Shaun F. Beasley Track and Field where they will meet Melrose. The Red Raiders host Watertown in their first meet of the season on Friday afternoon.
