BYFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse team traveled north to Byfield to take on Triton on Monday afternoon. They came home with their undefeated record intact as they beat the Vikings 15-7 to go to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cape Ann League.
Triton, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 overall and in the league.
“We came out strong again,” stated Lynnfield head coach Christina Serra, as her team led wire-to-wire. “I think that we were able to surprise them.”
The Pioneers led this game, 8-3, at the half and slowly expand their lead in the second half.
Taylor Valiton had a huge day on offense netting seven goals to go with one assists.
“Taylor is a hard worker with a beautiful shot,” said Smith, about the sophomore midfielder.
Senior co-captain, Chloe Considine, had six points with four goals and a pair of assists while senior, Avery Bird, scored twice.
Another senior co-captain, Charlotte Radulski, had one goal and one assist while Hannah Gromko had the other Pioneer tally. Chloe Gromko, Hanna’s younger sister, had one assist.
Casey Flynn improved to 4-0 in net as the junior had eight saves.
On April 5, the Pioneers beat rival North Reading, 13-11, on the road to retain the Pepe-Samson Trophy that the two schools battle for.
Junior attacker, Maddie Mastrangelo, led the team in this one on offense with four goals and one assist while Valiton also scored four times.
Considine had two goals and two helpers for four points while Radulski matched what she did against Triton with one goal and one assist.
Hannah Gromko and Bird both found the back of the Hornet net once to round out the scoring.
Flynn had six stops in goal.
“The girls were ecstatic,” stated Serra, about beating their rivals. “We were more aggressive than they were.”
Lynnfield will now host Ipswich on April 12 at 4 p.m. trying to go to 5-0. They will then play a non-league game at Wakefield on Patriots Day next Monday at 10 am. The next morning, also at 10 a.m., Lynnfield will welcome Pentucket as the team plays back-to-back morning games during April Vacation Week.
“Those games will be challenges for us,” admitted Smith, as the schedule starts to get tougher.
