WAKEFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Wakefield on Patriots Day morning to visit Wakefield. The Pioneers came home with an impressive, 13-10, non-league win over the Warriors on a rainy, cool day.

With that victory, Lynnfield improved to 5-0 overall.

“They beat us last year so it was a big win for us,” said Lynnfield head coach Christina Serra. “They are also a division ahead of us so this is good for our power rankings.”

The Pioneers led this one from wire-to-wire as they scored first in the opening minute of the game. They went to the half leading 8-4.

Wakefield, a team out of the Middlesex League, was able to cut the lead to two at 12-10 later in the second half, but the Pioneers scored the final goal of the day late for some breathing room.

Taylor Valiton continued her hot start on offense as the sophomore registered a career-high eight goals. Junior attacker, Maddie Mastrangelo, was the team’s other multiple scorer as she had two. Avery Bird, Kayla Santo and Lily White had the three other LHS goals.

For White, a sophomore, it was her first-ever varsity goal.

Senior co-captain, Chloe Considine, had a great day playmaking with a team-high five assists.

Casey Flynn improved to 5-0 in net as the junior had eight saves posting four in each half.

The April 12 game at home against Ipswich was postponed the day before due to a lack of officials. The make-up date for that contest will be on April 29 at 10 a.m.

Lynnfield’s next game will be a non-league one as they host Malden Catholic on April 25. That game will start at 5:15 p.m.
