
WESTON — On June 5 and June 6, the North Reading High School girls’ track and field team took part in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) North Heptathlon where juniors, Madison Vant and Georgia Robarts both competed in their first ever heptathlon.
Robarts placed 9th overall out of 77 athletes scoring 3,231 points. In a solid two days of competition, she PR’ed in six out of the seven events. On the first day at Regis College, Robarts put up a solid 100M hurdle time of 17.74 seconds. She moved onto the shot put where she PR’ed by 2.5 feet with a 22’4.5” throw. Next, she put in another solid performance at high jump, leaping 4’5”. She ended day one placing 13th overall in a strong 200M field with a 28.47 second time.
On day two at Weston High School, Robarts continued to compete fiercely. She started the day with a PR 17’4” long jump. Next it was on to javelin where she PR’ed with a 59’8” throw. She finished the competition with an 8 second PR in the dreaded 800M.
Vant placed 1st by over 300 points, setting a new NRHS heptathlon record by amassing 4,200 points and was named the MSTCA North Heptathlon Champion. She scored the highest in the state this year for the heptathlon, besting the MSTCA South Heptathlon winner by over 400 points. Vant put in a solid two days of work placing first in her heat and 6th overall in the 100M hurdles with a time of 16.76 seconds. She moved onto the shot put where she placed 1st overall with a 32’8.5” toss. Next was high jump where she placed third overall with a 4’9” leap. She finished day 1 placing 5th in the 200M dash with a PR 27.29 seconds.
Day two brought more success with two first place finishes in the long jump and javelin with an 18’3.75” leap and a 111’8” throw respectively, putting her in first place going into the 800M race. Vant was able to hold onto her 1st place spot with a 12th place finish running a respectable 2:44.90.
