LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield Rotary’s Concerts on the Common on July 12 and July 19 were noteworthy events for all who were in attendance, but none more so than for Rotarian Lauri Priestley.

Both groups, Freddy G’s Happy Hour Band and the 12 Barz Band, were new groups for this year. They were both Lauri’s picks. The decision was well researched, and we can safely say her risk was our reward. Both bands were given high praise by the audience. Thank you, Lauri!

Lauri and her husband, Bob, have been co-chairs of the free Rotary month-long event for many years. They deserve our thanks for their tireless efforts to bring memorable musical fun for all to enjoy.

The July 12 entry, Freddie G’s Happy Hour Band, filled the warm evening air with memorable rock sounds from the 60s and 70s. Featuring tunes from the Everly Brothers’ “Wake Up Little Suzie” to The Beatles’ “Twist and Shout,” the well-attended audience was more than entertained by this seasoned, versatile band.

The July 19 group, 12 Barz Band, not to be outdone, delivered a splendid performance to the largest crowd of the year. With energy to burn and their wide-ranging repertoire, the audience was treated to songs from Joe Crocker, Tom Jones, The Beatles, Chicago and many more. Mixing jazz and rock, they more than measured up to expectations.

Interact, the Lynnfield High School Rotarians Club, was on hand to provide needed food and beverage sales.

Three happy attendees went home with raffle gift awards at both events.

All told, the atmosphere matched the “easy feeling” on these warm July summer nights.

We thank our many sponsors that make these concerts possible free of charge every Wednesday night in July from 6-8 p.m.

Rotary invites everyone who enjoys music to come to experience the fun at the one remaining concert this year.

Wildfire will perform at the final Concert on the Common on Wednesday, July 26 from 6-8 p.m.
