Animal lover who enjoyed antique car restoration, motorcycles and his hobby farm
NORTH READING — Richard Lesley Wood, 83, of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Reading, passed away at his home on August 17, 2023.
Richard was born in Winchester on April 21, 1940, the son of the late Phyllis “Mickey” (MacIntyre) Wood and Carl “Pee Wee” Wood.
Richard was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1958, and prior to retiring he spent 18 years working as a patrolman for the town of Reading. During retirement, he was able to enjoy having a hobby farm in Maine, followed by a lake house in New Hampshire and finally settled in Haines City, Florida. He found great joy in antique car restoration, riding motorcycles and enjoying all life had to offer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia “Ginny” Cutler Wood; his daughter Becky and son-in-law Bob Roller (Tallahassee); his son Dick and daughter-in-law Heather Wood (North Reading); his grandchildren, Kevin Jones and his wife Lily; Mallory and her husband Craig Eddy; and Jeremy, Joshua, Peter and Lilly Wood; his great-granddaughter Harper Eddy; his brother, Donald Wood and his wife Florence; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services and burial will be private and there are no visiting hours. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Christina Rawlins, 1701 W Commerce Ave., Lot 256, Haines City, FL 33844, to support the Heartland Estates dog park. This dog park was dear to his heart, being the animal lover he always was.
