NORTH READING — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High girls’ soccer team was edged, 1-0, by Newburyport at home.

The loss was the second in a row for the Hornets this fall as their record fell to 5-2 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

Hornet goalie, Maggie Schulz, made six saves in net.

On Sept. 21, the Hornets were edged by rival Lynnfield, 2-1, on the road.

The Hornets struck first at the 20:46 mark of the first half as Kierstin Higgins scored assisted by Reilly Tassinari.

The Pioneers tied it 5:53 into the second half. They then got the game-winning goal 23:33 into the half.

Schulz made seven saves.

On Sept. 29, the Hornets host Rockport at 4 p.m. The next morning at 11 a.m., they welcome Bishop Fenwick for a non-league contest. That is the team’s first non-league game of the fall.

North Reading then travels to Danvers to take on CAL newcomer, Essex Tech, on Oct. 3. That game will start at 4:30 p.m.
