NORTH READING — The North Reading High golf team recorded a season high in points on Tuesday afternoon as they rolled over guest Hamilton-Wenham, 172-149, at Hillview Golf Club on a unseasonably, hot, sunny day.
With that victory, the Hornets improved to 9-3 overall and 9-2 (third place) in the Cape Ann League.
“The losses to Lynnfield last week were still fresh and we wanted to make a statement,” explained Hornets head coach Brian McAuliffe. “We also had Jason (Curran) back from injury and that helped.”
Curran had a team-high 34 points (Stableford scoring). Isabel Brozena, who is still undefeated at the number-one slot this year, had 32 points while Max Forristall was third with 30.
Last Thursday (Sept. 28), the Hornets fell to undefeated Lynnfield, 169-165, at Hillview.
“They have a good team from top to bottom,” said McAuliffe. “It also hurt not having Jason with his play and leadership.”
Brozena led the team with 34 points while Leo Romanski was right behind with 33 points. Drew Mountain came in third at 28 points.
The day before, the Hornets faced Lynnfield in a non-league match at Sagamore Spring. This match was not as close as the Pioneers won, 158-121.
Brozena scored 32 points to lead the team again while Thomas Gazda had 24 points. Curran missed this match as well.
“They took advantage of their home course,” said McAuliffe. “We played the back nine holes and faltered on some putts.”
North Reading’s final match of the regular season will be on Oct. 11 as they take on host Triton at Ould Newbury Golf Club at 3 p.m.
