LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team concluded last week with a win, a tie and a loss.
Lynnfield (8-2-1) began last week defeating Triton 3-0 on Oct. 3.
Sophomore Hannah Ozanian gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first half, assisted by senior forward Catie Kampersal and junior midfielder Clara Caulfield.
After junior midfielder Emma Rose completed a corner kick, Ozanian scored her second goal with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Rose had the assist.
“Hannah played a great game,” said Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont. “She has been working really hard this year. She put herself in a good position to score both of her goals.”
Junior forward Bella Carroll scored a goal with 23 minutes remaining in the second half after receiving a pass from Rose.
Vermont commended Rose’s playmaking skills against the Vikings.
“Emma came up big with her two assists,” said Vermont.
Senior captain Ava Gamache recorded two saves in net against Triton.
Vermont said the Pioneers played a great game against the Vikings.
“We did a nice job controlling the midfield,” said Vermont. “Our midfielders played really well. The girls did a great job moving the ball.”
Ties Newburyport
The Pioneers tied Newburyport 1-1 on Oct. 5.
Senior captain/Ally Sykes gave Lynnfield a 1-0 lead after finding the back of the net five minutes into the first half. Rose had the assist after nailing a corner kick.
Newburyport tied the game 1-1 ten minutes into the first half.
Gamache had four saves in net against the Clippers.
“It’s always a battle against Newburyport,” said Vermont. “It was a great game. The girls’ were a little disappointed with the 1-1 tie, but we all knew that Newburyport was not going to roll over.”
Vermont said senior captain Keely Briggs and freshman Avery Haney played excellent defensive games against Newburyport.
“Keely and Avery really locked down the defense in the midfield for us,” said Vermont.
Vermont said Caulfield played a “great game in the midfield.”
Falls to Danvers
The Pioneers fell 3-0 to Danvers on Oct. 7.
Danvers jumped out to a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the first half.
The Falcons scored its second goal 15 minutes into the first half.
Lynnfield had a few chances to score halfway through the first half, but the Pioneers were unable to find the back of the net.
Danvers scored its final goal with four minutes remaining in the game.
Gamache tallied six saves in net against the Falcons.
“Ava had an incredible save on a breakaway,” said Vermont.
Vermont said freshman forward Ava Damiani was called up from the JV team, and played well against the Falcons.
“Ava did a nice job,” said Vermont. “She made some nice plays for us.”
Vermont said the Pioneers gave a valiant effort against Danvers.
“Danvers is a really strong team,” said Vermont. “We weren’t ready in the beginning of the game, but the girls kept working hard and responded. We had a couple of opportunities that we couldn’t capitalize on. Danvers finished chances.”
Upcoming games
The Pioneers faced Manchester-Essex on Tuesday, Oct. 10, taking place after deadline. Lynnfield hosts Essex Tech on Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 14, beginning at 3 p.m.
