Avid card players and enjoyed traveling
WAKEFIELD — Alice F. Carney, age 84, of Wakefield, formerly of Burlington, Melrose and Cambridge, passed peacefully surrounded by her family after a long illness.
Alice is predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend of 59 years, Herb Carney. Alice was the devoted mother of Kevin and wife Carol; the late Michael; Brian and wife Adrienne Macki; Thomas and spouse Steven Scott; loving grandmother of Katherine; the late Michael; Robert and wife Emily; Thomas; Alexander; Sean; Kayla; Abigail; Graham; Rosie; and Sofia; and daughter of the late Francis and Alice Feeley of Melrose. The oldest of 12 children, Alice was sister to the late Rose and late Paul MacDonald; Francis Feeley; Carol and the late George Lee; the late Thomas and Joan Feeley; Jeremiah and Mary Jane Feeley; Catherine and Larry Dennison; Mary and Paul Downing; the late Charles Feeley and Susan Mullens; the late Paul and Nancy Feeley; Maureen and Jack Woods; and David and Karen Feeley.
Born and raised in Cambridge, Alice moved with her family to Melrose during her high school years and was a member of the Melrose High School Class of 1956. Alice was foremost a strong and adoring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and aunt. Professionally, she held finance management positions with firms including Travis Associates of Burlington and Sheldon Cohen Insurance, formerly of Chestnut Hill, where she worked for 18 and 19 years, respectively. Alice and Herb were avid and skilled card players with family, friends and neighbors. Together, they enjoyed visiting Ogunquit, ME and took special trips to Ireland, Aruba, Bermuda and Hawaii.
In honor of Alice’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 13 at 11 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
