Hornet girls’ and boys’ teams impress at youth cross country meet

NORTH READING — North Reading competed against six teams on Oct. 12 at Ipswich River Park in a 1.7 mile race, youth cross country meet.

The girls’ team went undefeated, taking down North Andover, Masconomet, Methuen, Triton and Andover.

The team was led by Paige Vant, Maddie Duffy and Parker Burnham with a 1-2-3 finish, which guarantees the win in cross country meets, where the low score wins.

Vant set a new course record covering the 1.7 mile distance in 10:08. Bridget MacDonald (20th) and Sophia Garibotto (21st) were 4th and 5th for North Reading in a field of 66 runners.

On the boys’ side the Hornets went 3-2 losing to Masconomet and North Andover but defeating Methuen, Andover and Triton. The boys’ team was led by Liam Steele, Pierce Burnham and Ryan Perroti who finished 13th, 14th and 21st respectively in a field of 104 runners.

Cole Donahue (28th), Dylan DiCarlo (33rd), Drew Nichols (34th) and Aidan Steele (35th) rounded out the top seven athletes for North Reading.
