SAUGUS—The Melrose High girls volleyball team celebrated another league-winning season with their year-end banquet held at Rosaria in Saugus on Thursday, Dec. 7.
The 19-4 team earned yet another ML title and enjoyed a season with just one ML loss. They advance two rounds in playoffs to take on Canton for a chance to go to the state finals, but fell 3-0.
The night was a chance to celebrate their outgoing seniors: captains Grace Gentile and Sadie Jaggers and senior Manon Marchais, who saw the team go 60-13 in four years with them in the program.
Melrose head coach Scott Celli distributed awards that included:
Top Server – Maggie Turner
Most Improved – Sabine Wenzel
Top Offensive Player – Leah Fowke
Top Defender – Grace Gentile
Unsung Hero – Manon Marchais
MVP – Sadie Jaggers
Coach’s Award – Leah Fowke
The evening was also a chance for the team to announce their captains for next season. Leading Melrose will be returning captain Leah Fowke, along with juniors Maggie Turner and Gigi Albuja, and sophomore Sabine Wenzel.
