Wrestlers top Woburn, Winchester, move to 4-0 in the league

WOBURN — The Wakefield High wrestling team improved to 3-0 in league dual meets with a 48-30 victory over Woburn on the road Dec. 27.

The Tanners had the early advantage taking a quick 18-0 lead after two forfeits and a win at 120.

The Warriors responded by winning seven of the next eight bouts, all by a pin for six points each, to reclaim the lead at 42-24 and run away with it.

The Valley’s got things going at 126 and 132 as Philip pinned Logan Murray in 1:10 and Andrew pinned Cameron Ackerman in 55 seconds.

After Woburn bounced back with a decision at 138, Aydin Lamb made quick work of Cameron Terilli with a pin in 45 seconds at 144, starting a string of five pins in a row.

Jack Hodgdon got his against Luke Nelson in 3:06 at 150; Sean Callanan against Benjamin Glazer in 1:59 at 157; Jaden Fullerton against Cole MacPhee in 1:59 at 165 and Zach Arria against Thomas Kineavy in 5:50 at 175.

After Woburn wins on a decision and a forfeit, the Warriors made sure to finish strong as Kip King pinned Mohamed Amamou in 3:20 at 285 to account for the final of 48-30.

Wakefield hosted multiple teams for individual dual meets on Saturday with the highlights being wins over Gloucester, Mt. Hope and a league win over Winchester.

The Warriors went 11-3 against the Red and Black. Michael Barry got the first win at 113 on a 7-2 decision but a pin at 120 gave Winchester a 12-3 lead.

Once again, Wakefield proved their toughness in the middleweights as Andrew Valley (126) and Lamb (132) got pins in 2:31 and 49 seconds respectively to reclaim the lead for good.

James Fabbri’s 9-2 decision at 138 made it 18-12 and Hodgdon followed with a pin in 3:36 at 144.

Wakefield finished with six wins in a row as Callanan (157, F, 1:59), Fullerton (165, Dec, 13-9), Arria (175, F, :38) Ahmed Othman (190, Dec, 5-4) Joe LaMonica (215, FOR) and King (285, F, 2:47) sealed the victory.

Wakefield beat Mt. Hope 43-24. They got wins from Barry (113, F, 5:52), Jason Correia (120, FOR), Andrew Valley (126, MD, 14-1), Lamb (132, MD, 10-1), Callanan (157, MD, 23-9), Fullerton (165, F, 1:38), Arria (175, F, :13), LaMonica (215, MD, 9-1) and King (285, Dec, 5-2).

The Warriors defeated Gloucester 48-30 with victories from Barry (113, F, 2:36), Valley (126, F, :12), Fabbri (132, Dec, 8-0), Lamb (138, F, :39), Hodgdon (144, Dec, 703), Christian DiFlorio (150, F, 4:42), Callanan (157, F, 1:00), Fullerton (165, F, :58) and Arria (175, F, 1:07).

Wakefield will look to improve to 5-0 in the league when they travel to Watertown on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
