BOSTON — On Jan. 23, the Lynnfield High girls’ indoor track and field team lost to Amesbury, 60-40, at The Track at New Balance in Brighton.
With the defeat, the Pioneers fell to 1-1 while the Red Hawks improved to 3-0.
“They are a good team, especially with their sprinters, hurdlers and long jumpers,” said Pioneers head coach Adam Dell’Aria. “It was a tough meet.”
In the high jump, Lily White and Clara Caulfield tied for first at 4-6. The three other individual winners for the Pioneers were Emilie Bell (27-1 in the shot-put), Viola Wertz (13:28 in the two mile) and Caitlin Buoniconti in the 1000-meters (3:32).
Wertz’s time in the two mile was a state qualifying time.
The 4×200 relay team also won with a time of 1:56.79. That foursome was made up of Ava Willoughby, Hannah Ozanian, Caulfield and Lily Rocco.
Lynnfield had three second-place finishes. Kaila George had time of 1:54 in the 600-meters while Ozanian ran the 300-meters in 46 seconds flat.
The other third place was Gabby Bottaro in the mile with a time of 6:26.
The Pioneers also had three third-place finishes, Rocco in the 55-meters (8.23), Emma Greenleaf in the 55-meters hurdles (10.44) and Lauren Mattia in the 600-meters (1:58.8).
On Feb. 6, the Cape Ann League Meet will take place back at The Track at New Balance. That event will start at 5:45 p.m.
