BOSTON — Lynnfield High boys’ indoor track and field head coach Christine Smith knew her team was facing an uphill battle on Jan. 23 as they took on Amesbury at The Track at New Balance in Brighton.
The Red Hawks showed whey they are the favorites to win the Cape Ann League Baker Division as they beat the Pioneers 67-28.
Lynnfield’s record fell to 1-1 while the Red Hawks improved to 3-0.
“They have some of the top runners in the state,” pointed out Smith. “They should go unbeaten in our league.”
Two Pioneers recorded wins that night. Eli Mendese broke his own school record in the high jump at six feet. He also came in first in the long jump at 20-1.5 feet.
The other winner was Sirvanth Tudi as he captured the two mile with a time of 10:09.42.
Lynnfield had three second-place finishes. Two of them were by Ethan Francis as he had a long jump of 14-4 and a high jump of 5-10.
Nick Groussis came in second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.16 seconds.
The Pioneers had three third-place finishes. Rituci Mahajan came in third in the two mile at 14:55. Jessie Dorman placed third in the 55-meters at 6.99 second while Joe Cucciniello too third in the 300-meters at 39.22 seconds.
