Support Eagle Scout project at Brissonte Saturday

NORTH READING — Looking for a special Valentine’s Day gift and want to support a good cause? Head out to Brissonte on Saturday, February 10! Liam Steele, the senior patrol leader of North Reading Boy Scout Troop 750, is holding his fundraiser in support of his Eagle Scout project.

Ten percent of all purchases made in store at 157 Main St. or online (https://brissonte.com/collections/home-decor) on Saturday will be donated to Steele’s project. He plans to interview approximately 10 United States military veterans from North Reading and create a historical book, film, and posters to share with the Flint Memorial Library as an artifact the town can enjoy long into the future.

Steele chose this as his Eagle Scout project because he has several relatives who are veterans and he would like to honor them and others from North Reading for their service. Any funds left over will be donated to the North Reading Department of Veterans Services.

Troop sweeps Klondike race

This past weekend, Troop 750 competed in the 2024 Polar Bear Challenge at T.L. Storer Scout Reservation in Barnstead, N.H. The challenge included scouts from troops all over Eastern Massachusetts and involved numerous outdoor competitions, culminating in the Klondike race which required the scouts to push a dogsled approximately one mile in the snow across the campground, up and down numerous hills covered in ice and snow. To make it even more challenging, one scout is required to ride in the sled throughout the race!

The two sleds entered by the troop finished 1-2 in the standings, sweeping the race against the likes of Arlington, Somerville, Wilmington, and Andover among others.

Upcoming adventures

In addition to the Polar Bear Challenge, the troop will also head to New Hampshire to ski in March, spend a weekend backpacking and camping at West Point at the end of April vacation, and head to Maine this summer for a one-week hiking and camping adventure.

In 2025, the troop will head to Sea Base in the Bahamas for a one-week sailing trip where the scouts will learn to sail while also taking time to snorkel, fish and embark on other sea-faring excursions.
