Candidate Statements for Republican State Committee Man

MICHAEL SCARLATA

Michael Scarlata, candidate for Republican State Committeeman, First Essex & Middlesex District

My name is Michael Scarlata; I am a candidate for Republican State Committeeman in the First Essex and Middlesex district.

The role of the Republican State Committee is not widely known or understood. This excerpt is from the Mass GOP Website: “The Massachusetts Republican State Committee is the governing body of the Republican Party in Massachusetts. Members of the State Committee play a key role in building the Republican Party in their districts by recruiting candidates, helping with fundraising, registering new voters, and growing the local Republican City and Town Committees in the district. One state committeeman and one state committeewoman are elected from each state senate district every four years.” (Tuesday, March 5, 2024)

Currently in Massachusetts, Republicans represent just 9 percent of the registered voters. We have 200 Legislators on Beacon Hill. 28 are Republicans (4 Republican State Senators and 24 Republican State Representatives). It is clear to me and probably to you that one-party rule in Massachusetts simply doesn’t work.  When you have one party in control there are no checks and balances.  How do Republicans level the political playing field? The Republican State Committee must begin to build its farm team. What does that mean? The Republican State Committee is responsible for recruiting conservative Republicans to run for City Council, Select Board, School Committee and many other positions in our cities and towns.  Once our Republican elected officials gain experience, name recognition, respect for their decision-making then we hope down the road they decide to run for higher office like State Representative and State Senate.

I have been a political activist for over 10 years and have recruited, managed, advised, and promoted several Republican candidates at the local and state level.  I have a solid record of success within the Republican Party. I was a campaign volunteer for Governor Charlie Baker, Gubernatorial candidate Geoff Diehl, State Representative Brad Jones, and State Senator Bruce Tarr’s campaign along with many others. I was the campaign manager for Bob May’s State Representative and Congressional campaigns.

Obviously, there is a lot more to do but I have the stamina, fortitude, perseverance, and experience that is needed to increase our Republican representation within our district and throughout Massachusetts. Once elected to the Republican State Committee my focus will be with the First Essex and Middlesex district, which includes North Reading and surrounding towns.  My number one goal is to elect Republicans in the district’s 17 towns and two cities. As I mentioned, when we elect Republicans locally; we are building our farm team. Once the farm team is established with commonsense conservative Republicans, we will have a huge opportunity to make some inroads in winning seats on Beacon Hill as well as our Congressional and Constitutional offices.

Please visit my website scarlata4statecommittee.com to learn why I am the most qualified Republican State Committeeman candidate that has the experience and know how to move our Republican Party forward. I respectfully ask all Republican voters for their vote on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Together we can make a difference in the Massachusetts political landscape. I am ready to get to work.

Thanks for reading.

Jeff Yull, candidate for Republican State Committeeman, First Essex & Middlesex District

JEFF YULL

I am running for State Committeeman for the First Essex Middlesex District alongside Ashley Sullivan who is running for Republican State Committeewoman of the same district. To make Republicans relevant again in Massachusetts, we need a unified MassGOP, we need to grow and strengthen the Republican Town and City Committees, and succeed in getting Republican candidates to win their races.

I am a proud unapologetic Republican who is running to leave my adult children a better world as they make their way through today’s degrading society. My parents provided a value system that families create a kind and caring society. When a village is raising a family, you get what you have today, a dysfunctional society.

As I put my thoughts together on why I am running for Republican State Committee, there is chaos in America and around the world. The peace that was with us before the Democrats took over the U.S. Senate and the Oval office is gone.

Seeing the division of elected Republicans in Massachusetts, at a time when unity is crucial, is disheartening. It is similar to what is going on with Republicans in Washington. It is time to put petty grievances aside for the good of the Party. Massachusetts Republicans are hungry for a unified Party that can accomplish goals set forth by the Party.

Before the Massachusetts Republican Party (MassGOP) can support Republicans throughout the state, it must put forth a platform that includes a broad spectrum of ideas that reflects Republican values distinguishing us from Democrats. I have been with the MassGOP since 2012 and supported every leadership of the Party, from Bob McGinn through Jim Lyons to today’s Amy Carnevale. Any differences I’ve kept private. I have and will continue to work alongside their leadership.

Before anyone puts an “R” next to their name they must have the confidence they are joining the right Party. With a strong, unified MassGOP, we will see a return of donors and qualified Republican candidates run for office. My goal is to make the MassGOP politically relevant again.

The MassGOP must be rebuilt from the bottom up, the inside out, and the top down, allowing the outside in, with leadership that unites its membership behind common goals.

Building from the bottom up: When I took over the North Reading Republican Town Committee (NRRTC) at the behest of Brad Jones there were a mere five members. No one knew we existed; we needed a vision and name recognition. From the very beginning I was determined to make the NRRTC an influential role player in North Reading. We now have 35 members on the Primary ballot, are financially sound and a recognized member of the community. The OCPF (Office of Campaign and Political Finance) recently announced that North Reading is 6th out of the top 10 RTCs in the state of Massachusetts. I started by focusing on making the North Reading RTC part of the fabric of the community. We have held an unenrolled voters forum and a forum on Opioids. We took over annual Candidates Night for local elections. We offer, annually, a $750 essay scholarship: “What the American Flag Means to Me.” We participate in the local Apple Fest and National Night Out, and we get involved with local issues. These are examples of building a committee from the bottom up.

Building a strong Republican future from the inside out: RTCs and RCCs are the backbone of the Republican Party. As an experienced leader, my goal as state Committeeman is to work with local committees to achieve the same success as I have with NRRTC. To position them to secure good candidates and bring them into the Republican fold. There are a combined 39 RTCs and RCCs plus their wards that must be developed. Many are fledgling committees that require the help and support of good leadership. I have held joint meetings and events with many surrounding Republican committees and helped them successfully reinvigorate their membership. I have advised new committee chairs get re-organized with their by-laws, paperwork and growth strategies both inside and outside of our district.

Currently I have put together the Essex Middlesex Republican Coalition of Chairs (EMRC) along with Jim Morose (Chairman, Danvers RTC) and Joan Garber (Chairwoman, Middleton RTC). The purpose of the coalition is to bring local committee Chairs together to share ideas, discuss and identify common needs and goals that we can work on together and bring their voices to the MassGOP. We have had great feedback and attendance this year. Our first meeting had 19 RTC/RCC Chairs.

I am also in the process of developing the following district wide Coalitions:

  • Republican Coalition of Registrars (RCR)
  • Coalition of Select Board Republicans (CSBR)
  • Coalition of School Committee Republicans (CSCR)

From the top down – win elections: Our Republican candidates can realize successful wins in Massachusetts with energized Republicans, conservative Unenrolled voters, strong town and city committees and a supportive MassGOP. I have tirelessly promoted and supported Republican candidates starting with Scott Brown’s campaign for U.S. Senate. I have continued to hold fundraisers, candidates’ nights and campaigned for local, congressional, regional and statewide races. I have worked on every congressional race since Richard Tisei, including Bob May’s congressional campaign manager in 2022.

Always recruiting: On a local level, I am a two-term Select Board member. I have recruited and mentored several candidates who have successfully won their races. My recent recruit is a candidate currently running for State Committee in another district. I have met with Turning Point USA who is trying to develop high school charters in the district. We have an opportunity to work with Turning Point USA and Massachusetts Young Republicans. Working together with younger people is vital to ensuring our future, and to the growth of local committees whose membership is of an older age group.

There are fringe Republican groups fighting for the same cause, but not together. The cliché “United we stand, divided we fall” is pertinent to these efforts. We must get the message out that we are the Party for women’s rights, voters’ rights, that we are the Party of religious freedom, the Party that supports families, the Party that protects children, the Party with Constitutional values, the right to free speech, the Party that stands for the right to protect oneself, the Party that stands up against hate, a Party that stands behind the Monroe Doctrine, that protects our sovereignty. Finally, we must be a Party that stands for life. The Constitution is front and center.

Once we are on the same page, the MassGOP can strengthen its membership and guide Republican campaigns with success at winning elections in Massachusetts. I believe my experience, vision and passion in giving the Republican Party a voice makes me the most qualified candidate for State Committeeman in the 1st Essex Middlesex District. Please see our ad to review our long list of endorsements.

I am asking for your vote on March 5 to build a Republican Party that will be relevant again. It is the MassGOP that can save Massachusetts from the Democrat Party abyss.
