Take Out Orders: Say No to Single-Use Utensils

MELROSE — Most food establishments automatically and unnecessarily include plastic utensils with your takeout order. But since these items cannot be recycled, they end up in the trash. Literally billions of plastic utensils: forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks each year. You can make a difference!

Here are three ways to help: When you do take out, state that you will not need any plastic utensils. If you are bringing takeout to a picnic or other get together, use metal silverware; write “no cutlery” in the notes section of your online order; and keep your own metal cutlery in your bag or desk drawer.

If you have questions or comments about reducing, reusing or recycling, feel free to contact us at zerowastemelrose.org.
