LYNNFIELD — Two members of the Lynnfield High girls’ basketball team were named to the Cape Ann League All-Stars this season.
Freshman Hayden Valiton made the CAL First-Team All-Stars. The forward led the team in scoring averaging 9.7 points per game. She was also second on the team in rebounding averaging 7.3 boards per contest. Valiton was also first on the team in blocks with 46.
“She was tremendous,” stated Pioneers head coach Sue Breen. “She is the only 9th grader to make the First Team All-Stars.”
Her highest scoring game when she poured in 17 points against rival North Reading. She scored at least 10 points, 11 times this winter.
Her older sister, Taylor Valiton, made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars and that is her first postseason All-Star appearance.
The junior captain led the team in rebounds, averaging 11.8 per game. She was second behind her sister in scoring, averaging 7.3 points per game.
“I have been coaching many years and this is only the second time I have had a junior captain,” pointed out Breen. “She did a great job this season.”
Taylor recorded four double-doubles this year, once scoring 15 points to go with 16 rebounds against Triton. She almost matched that effort against Essex Tech as she had 15 points and 15 boards. She had her best rebounding game against Amesbury when she had a career-high 23 rebounds.
“Taylor is a fierce competitor on the court but very nice off it,” said Breen.
Lynnfield finished the season at 7-12 overall. In the CAL, they went 5-10.
