October 5, 2024 – The Melrose Marching Band took the field at Westford Academy this past Saturday in their 3rd performance of the NESBA Competition Season. Melrose took second place in their division and earned a high caption award for best visuals.

What began in mid-August as an idea of a show has become a presentation of music and marching that highlights the band’s strengths. The 2024 show, called Art Imitates Life, features lyrical soloists, technical marching, choreographed spinning, all communicating the idea of bringing art off the canvas, through the picture frame, and into action on the field. The band is demonstrating its technical strength in playing and marching while building its performance with practice each week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. “I am really proud of the growth we demonstrated at this show, and think that our week of hard work really paid off. I am looking forward to another productive week ahead, and feel confident that we can make a huge step forward at our competition at Oliver Ames next weekend,“ shared new Band Director Ben Vermilyea.

Catch the Melrose Band this Thursday night, October 10, at Melrose’s Fred Green Field as they join the football team and cheerleaders to take on Woburn. Then on Saturday, the band heads south to Oliver Ames High School for the next in their series of NESBA competitions. Go Melrose, beat Woburn!
