LYNNFIELD — The Cape Ann League girls’ soccer coaches recently selected their All-Star teams and four Lynnfield High players were picked.
Three were named to the CAL First-Team All-Stars while one made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars.
The three Pioneer First-Team All-Stars are Emma Rose, Bella Carroll and Bella Sykes. Clara Caulfield, meanwhile, made the Second-Team All-Stars.
Rose, a senior captain, was a CAL Second-Team All-Star last fall. The midfielder was also an Eastern Mass. and All-State player this year for the first time making both of those esteemed teams.
“She did a great job,” stated Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont. “She has tremendous vision and has a great ability to find her teammates.”
Rose was second on the team in points as she had 30 with 17 goals and 13 assists.
Carroll made the CAL First-Team All-Stars for the second year in a row. The forward led the team in points with 33 as she had 18 goals to go with 15 assists.
Like Rose, the senior co-captain, also made the Eastern Mass. All-Star team this fall.
“She has great energy and a nose for the goal,” said Vermont. “This year, she became more of a playmaker setting up her teammates with her 15 assists, which is much more than she had last year.”
Sykes is a junior midfielder who is making her All-Star debut. She had six goals to go with 11 assists.
“She has great awareness and was our engine in the midfield,” said Vermont.
Caulfield, who was a senior midfielder, also is making her All-Star debut as she had three goals and 11 assists tying Sykes.
“She can play in the middle or on the outside,” said Vermont, about her flexibility.
It was another great year for the Pioneers as they reached the MIAA Division 4 state semifinals before falling to Hamilton-Wenham, 3-0, back on Nov. 18.
The Pioneers finished at 16-4-2 overall.
In the CAL, they came in second place to North Reading in the Kinney Division as they were 13-2-1 in league action.
At the banquet just before Thanksgiving, Vermont gave out eight awards.
Morgan Hubbard, a senior forward, took home two awards, the Weight-room Iron Maiden Award and the LAA Scholar Athlete Award.
Rose won the team MVP Award.
Sophomore utility player, Sofia Giardina, revived the Most Improved Player Award. A
nother 10th-grader, Kaylee Barrett, won the Coaches Award as she was a forward and midfielder.
The Unsung Hero Award went to sophomore-midfielder, Giada Antidormi while the Final Game Ball Award went to Caulfield.
Arianna Guarracino won the FINISH Award. Guarracino is a senior defenseman.
The Pioneers will lose eight seniors to graduation. Along with Guarracino, Rose, Carroll, Hubbard and Caulfield, they will also lose Ella Hayman (midfielder-defenseman), Lily Rocco (defenseman) and Katie Connelly (midfielder).
“The seniors were a tremendous group of kids,” said Vermont. “They were good leaders and they will all be missed.”
The four captains this year were Rose, Guarracino, Caulfield and Carroll.
“It was a very successful season,” stated Vermont, who just completed his 24th-year at the helm. “We reached the state semifinals for the second year in a row.”
Although they lose two CAL First-Team All-Stars, Rose and Carroll along with second-team all-star Caulfield, the team should still be strong again next fall as the Pioneers are expecting 13 veterans back.
The captains for next year were also voted on by the players at the banquet and the four new captains are going to be Sykes, Hannah Ozanian (junior-midfielder), Ava Cook (junior-forward) and Antidormi.
