LYNNFIELD — Four members of the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team were recently named to Cape Ann League All-Star teams.
Two Pioneers made the All-Conference (First Team) roster and two other made the All-Stars (Second Team).
Rocco Scenna and Kelan Cardinal were the two All-Conference players.
Scenna had a team-high 14 goals to go with 11 assists as the junior midfielder had 25 points.
“Rocco had a great season from start to finish,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe, as Scenna led the team in goals this fall. “He scored most of our big goals this year.”
Scenna was a CAL All-Star last year.
Cardinal, a senior captain, had a record of 16-4-2 as he recorded 11 shutouts this fall.
“He was fantastic,” stated Munroe. “He improved a lot since his freshman year and was one of the best goalies we have ever had, especially the last two years.”
Cardinal, who was a CAL All-Star last year, finished his career with 28 shutouts.
The two Pioneer CAL All-Stars this year are Charlie Morgan and Matt Reinold.
Morgan, a senior captain and center-defenseman, was an All-Star last year.
“He had a great three years,” said Munroe. “He is the best-one-on-one defender I have ever coached.”
Morgan, another four-year player, also scored twice.
Reinold made the All-Star team for the first time in his career.
The senior outside-midfielder tied Scenna for the team lead in points with 25 as he had nine goals and 16 assists.
“He had the highest scoring season in team history who played outside-midfielder,” pointed out Munroe. “He had several huge assists all year and he was dominant in the state tournament.”
Reinold was another four-year player.
It was another outstanding season for the Pioneers this fall. After winning the Division 4 state title last year, they reached the championship game again this season, losing a heartbreaking, 3-2 game to Cohasset on Nov. 23 at Curry College in Milton.
Overall, the Pioneers’ final record was 16-4-3. In the CAL, they finished in 2nd place in the Kinney Division behind North Reading.
