MHS Orchestra receives a unique opportunity

DR. EMILY SCHAAD conducts a clinic in Melrose.

MELROSE — Last week, the MHS Orchestra enjoyed a spontaneous clinic from Dr. Emily Schaad, director of Orchestras from The State University of New York (Freedonia).

A sought-after conductor and clinician, Dr. Schaad was spending the week in Boston conducting the MMEA Northeast District Festival Orchestra (a highly select auditioned group made up of student from several area towns, including Melrose ).

“We are thrilled that Dr. Schaad took time on her day off to work with our high school students to enrich their music making and provide them with valuable feedback,” says Steve Black, MPS director of Visual and Performing Arts. “A huge thank you to our own Mr. Duback for arranging this special opportunity and for sharing the podium in his classroom.”
