
WAKEFIELD — Margaret M. “Peggy” Burgess, 64, of Wakefield lost her brave battle with several illnesses on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.
Born Feb. 7, 1960 in Stoneham, Peggy was the daughter of Robert Plante and Gretchen Gates.
Peggy was a graduate of Wakefield Memorial High in the Class of 1978 and graduated in 1982 from Worcester State College, where she blossomed and earned a degree in Speech Therapy.
Peggy worked for many years as a medical secretary at offices in Boston, Brookline, Winchester and Stoneham.
Blessed with a keen mind, Peggy could figure out just about anything and was a superb cook, seamstress, furniture painter, room decorator and jigsaw puzzle solver. She also loved going to the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Woburn.
Peggy possessed a very competitive spirit, particularly when it came to playing cards or any other type of game. In later years she crushed Wordle each day.
She will be missed wholeheartedly by Bob Burgess, her best friend and husband of nearly 30 years.
Peggy is also survived by her brother Michael of Wilmington; sisters-in-law Patti Plante of Wilmington, Kim Hamilton of New York and Robin Cleary of Stoneham; brothers-in-law Greg Burgess of Rhode Island, Robert Cleary of Stoneham and David Hamilton of New York; nieces Jessica Plante, Erin Cleary, Sophie Hamilton and Megan Cleary; nephews Henry and Owen Hamilton; aunts Susan von Ranson and her husband Jonathan of Wendall and Vicki Adams and her husband Al of Maine. In addition Peggy is survived by her mother-in-law Maryellen Burgess of Middleton and Maryellen’s sisters Bonnie, Linda and Kate and their husbands. Several cousins survive as well.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, January 23 from 4-6 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m.
