READING — On Sunday afternoon, the North Reading-Andover High co-op gymnastics team defeated visiting Methuen, 137.75- 135.65, at Reading Gymnastics Academy.
With that win, the Warnets improved to 6-1 in the Merrimack Valley Conference where they are in 2nd place behind undefeated Central Catholic.
“Methuen is a tough team with some standout gymnasts,” said Warnets head coach Marlena Bresnick. “This was a very good win for us.”
Alex Lee led the way as she came in first place in the all-around with a total score of 36.2. She was first on the bars (8.85) and balance beam (9.45).
Lee also tied for second on the floor exercise (9.0).
“Alex is getting better and better as the year progresses,” said Bresnick, about the North Reading 9th-grader. “She was injured during the early part of the season and doing some events but she has been in the all-around the past few weeks now that she is better.”
Kelsie Berry, another freshman from North Reading, was second in the all-around at 34.45. Her best finish was on the beam as she came in second with an 8.75.
It was also the team’s Senior Day as captain, Izzy Laski, was honored along with the three Methuen gymnasts who the Warnets also honored.
The Warnets will return to action on Jan. 29 as they take on host Haverhill. That meet will be just north of the boarder at the YMCA in Plaistow, New Hampshire and will start at 7 p.m.
