WAKEFIELD — This past Friday, Walton held an enrichment with Understanding Our Differences featuring the amazing Pam Fernandes and her loyal seeing-eye dog Jayhawk.

Pam’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Pam was an elite tandem bike racer for 13 years, competing across the globe in Australia, Canada and Europe. She is also a professional speaker who has presented at conferences, corporate events and even five congressional meetings. Lastly, she is an advocate who inspires audiences with humor, energy and a focus on our shared abilities.

Living with Type I diabetes since the age of four, Pam has faced immense challenges including losing her sight and kidney function. Yet, her resilience and determination shine as she shares a powerful message…we are all vital and valuable members of the community.

Along with speaking to students, Pam answered questions and showcased commands from Jayhawk. The enrichment was made possible through a grant from the Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF).
