BOSTON — The Lynnfield High girls’ indoor track and field team lost its first meet of the season on Jan. 21 as they fell, 66-34, to Ipswich at the Track at New Balance in Boston. With the defeat, the Pioneers record dipped to 2-1.
“This meet against Ipswich was a tough one,” admitted Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace. “They are the best team in the league, so staying competitive with them was our goal going into the meet. I think we achieved that objective because we scored 34 points which was the most points scored against them so far this year.”
The Tigers improved to 3-0 with the win.
Abby Lopez led the Pioneers with two wins. She ran a 5:56.55 in the mile and a 13:03.24 in the two mile.
Allison Maddocks captured the long jump (13’5.5″) while Clara Caulfield won the high jump (4’8″) for the two other individual wins.
The Tigers won the six other individual events and they also won both relays.
Caitlin Buoniconti had the two second-place finishes for the Pioneers in the 1,000 meters (3:40.15) and two mile (15:57.42).
Lynnfield had seven third-place finishes led by Kaila George who had two as she had a time of 3:59 in the 1,000 and a 13’1” in the long jump.
The next meet for the team will be the Cape Ann League Meet on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. That meet will also be at the Track at New Balance.
