The Lexington Symphony visits Melrose schools

GRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS were excited by visits by the Lexington Symphony.

MELROSE — Members of the Lexington Symphony visited all five Melrose elementary schools last week as part of the Orchestrating Kids Through Classics Program.

While this is their first visit to Melrose, the program is in its 30th year. Students hear a real live orchestra, learn the history of classical music, and are often inspired to play an instrument. The program is presented to all 300 third grade students throughout the district and will culminate in a field trip to Lexington where they will enjoy a full symphony performance.

“We are so happy to collaborate with and immerse our students in the Lexington Symphony’s rich programming,” says Steve Black, MPS director of Visual and Performing Arts. The timing could not be better, as students will soon choose an instrument to study as a part of the schools’ instrumental program when entering fourth grade.
