NORTH READING — In honor of the 100th birthday of Mary Trullo, a 64-year resident of North Reading, the Select Board voted to proclaim January 19, 2025 as “Mary Trullo Day.”
Mary was initially recognized as the town’s oldest citizen during the annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Hillview Country Club. During that event, friends and relatives filled two tables and gathered in her honor as she was presented with the town’s Boston Post Cane Award from Angela Mauceri and Paula Mastro of the Boston Post Cane Committee, and also presented with a certificate from the State House of Representatives from State Rep. Brad Jones and State Sen. Bruce Tarr, who host the annual party.
While the Select Board’s schedule in January did not coincide in time for the proclamation to be made prior to her birthday, a vote was taken at the board’s January 23 meeting, with a promise to present the proclamation to Mary personally once a date could be arranged.
The proclamation is signed by the five members of the board, Vincenzo Stuto, Chair; Stephen O’Leary, Vice Chair; Nicholas Masse, Clerk; Liane Gonzalez and Richard Wallner. It reads as follows:
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Mary Trullo was born on January 19, 1925 and has been a resident of Eugley Park since 1960; and
WHEREAS, Mary grew up in Bar Harbor, Maine with her two sisters before moving to North Reading and settling into houses in the old Eugley Farm area of town; and
WHEREAS, Mary has two daughters, Linda and MaryAnn, who went to the North Reading schools; and
WHEREAS, Mary received the Boston Post Cane Award in November 2024 as the oldest citizen in North Reading;
NOW THEREFORE, We, the Select Board of North Reading do hereby proclaim January 19, 2025 to be
Mary Trullo Day
and urge all citizens of North Reading to join us in wishing Mary a Happy 100th Birthday.
As the recipient of the Boston Post Cane Award, Mary is also invited to be escorted in a vintage automobile during the town’s annual Memorial Day Parade.
