Select Board extends Dolan’s contract

LYNNFIELD — The Select Board unanimously voted to extend Town Administrator Rob Dolan’s contract during Monday’s meeting.

Select Board Chair Dick Dalton said the extension will add another year onto Dolan’s contract, which will run from now through Feb. 1, 2027.

“The proposed amendment to the town administrator’s contract would extend the contract to Feb. 1, 2027, and would grant the town administrator an increase in salary of 3 percent in each of the two years,” said Dalton. “No other terms to the contract were changed.”

According to the amended contract, Dolan’s salary from Feb. 1, 2025 through Jan. 31, 2026 will be $223,253.

“All payments shall be subject to applicable withholdings and deductions,” the contract states.

Dalton said the Town Charter stipulates that the Select Board can appoint a town administrator for a two-year term.

“This is par for the course,” said Dalton. “We can only extend the contract so far, provided there is a good review. There was an excellent review in this case, so we extended it out to Feb. 1, 2027.”

Dalton said the Select Board discussed Dolan’s contract extension during a recent executive session.

Select Board Vice Chair Phil Crawford expressed his support for extending Dolan’s pact once again.

“I agree with it,” said Crawford. “Rob has done a fantastic job. This is a customary extension. I like that we do it this way so we always stay ahead of the curve. A 3 percent increase is customary, and that would be well-earned at this time.”

Select Board member Alexis Leahy concurred with Dalton and Crawford’s viewpoint.

“I just echo what Phil said, and agree with everything there,” said Leahy.

The contract stipulates that Dolan’s salary will increase to $229,950 for the period that will run from Feb. 1, 2026 through Jan. 31, 2027.

“Further, (Dolan) shall no longer be included in the town’s performance incentive program available to all department heads,” the contract states.

Dolan thanked the Select Board for extending his contract in an interview with the Villager.

“I would like to thank the Select Board for their confidence and I thank the people of Lynnfield for the privilege to serve this great community,” said Dolan.

Dolan, who served as Melrose’s mayor for 16 years, began his tenure as Lynnfield’s town administrator in February 2018. He succeeded former Town Administrator Jim Boudreau, who left Lynnfield in December 2017 after accepting a similar position in Scituate.
