NORTH READING — Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever wondered whether the town’s historic Damon Tavern is haunted? Do you harbor a healthy skepticism regarding the paranormal?
Join Boston Paranormal Investigators for an evening about all things paranormal at North Reading’s Damon Tavern, 21 Bow St., on Saturday, March 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. The event includes demonstrations of paranormal equipment and the opportunity to discover possible evidence captured at the Damon Tavern, or do some ghost hunting of your own inside this 1817 gem of North Reading’s past.
Regardless of one’s personal views, this informative and entertaining night may shed some light on the age-old question: Are ghosts real?
Jude Bradley, a psychic, spiritual consultant, writer, and teacher at Northern Essex Community College, will also provide 10-minute “plain deck card readings” during the event on a donation basis.
Hosted by the North Reading Historical Commission, tickets for the Paranormal 101 fundraiser are $20 each with all proceeds going toward the preservation and restoration of the David Damon Tavern. Seats are limited. Register by emailing joann.hoxha@gmail.com.
Did you know that Ebenezer Damon built the David Damon Tavern in 1817 for his older brother, Captain David Damon, who was a Revolutionary War veteran? Located at the halfway stop of the Salem-Lowell and Boston-Haverhill coach routes, the 21-room/nine-fireplace tavern also served as the town’s first Post Office.
In 1828, the Damon Tavern expanded with the addition of a beautiful second story ballroom. About 1835, traveling artist Rufus Porter (1792-1884) painted pastoral scenic murals on the plaster walls of the ballroom, which will be on view for attendees to see.
The Damon Tavern also served as the town’s first telephone switchboard, a variety store, and the town’s library. To learn more visit nreadinghistory.org.
