MELROSE—As the Melrose-Stoneham boy’s winter swim team finishes up a very successful season, they left their mark at the 2025 Middlesex League Meet, which saw them capture several medals and a few league titles.

This is Melrose-Stoneham’s first winning season in several years and competition continues this weekend at the MIAA Div. 2 State Finals, where they will compete against the state’s best.

They paved way in part due to their performance at last weekend’s MIAA North Sectionals, where they also collected medals.

There is more swimming ahead for several athletes who have qualified for States and they include Jos Baranyi, Will Baranyi, Gabe Hunnicutt, Will Lowe, Owen Molway, Danny Mirick,  and Tristan Onstott.

On January 30, Melrose enjoyed a solid day at the 2025 Middlesex League Meet with a 5thplace finish. On Feb. 9 Melrose-Stoneham competed at the annual MIAA North Sectionals where qualified swimmers competed against the best talent in the region. Those representing Melrose were Jos Baranyi, Will Baranyi, Gabe Hunnicutt, Will Lowe, Owen Molway, Danny Mirick and Tristan Onstott.

Those who medaled were Jos Baranyi (5th in the 50 free and 4th in the 100 free) who swam his best times that will bring him to States this weekend.

An impressed Melrose coach Alex Pennacchio credited the team for not only landing on the podium at the league meet but shaving off time. “We have had a good end to the season. The boys have been swimming well and dropping a lot of time,” he says.

Recently, the Middlesex League named their Winter All Star lists and Melrose named for swimmers: All Conference honors went to Jos Baranyi, Danny Mirick and All Star nods were given to Gabe Hunnicutt and Will Lowe.
