Warrior girls’ track takes 8th at state championship meet

BOSTON — The Wakefield High girls’ indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the Division 4 State Championship on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center, scoring 20 points and tying for 8th overall out of 34 scoring teams.

Lily Sallee led things off in the mile with a 3rd place finish and season-best of 5:18.02. Freshman Ella Ferrell placed 9th in her first state championship race with a time of 5:36.52.
In the 55 meters, Abby Hartigan placed 9th with a time of 7.63.

Quin Wilcox, a sophomore, ran a strong race in the 1000 meters to place 2nd taking on multiple-time state champion Maggie Kuchman from Holliston. Wilcox ran a personal best of 3:03.13 finishing just behind Kuchman. Freshman Hannah Caplin placed 18th in a time of 3:28.50.

Maya Palic performed well in the high jump clearing 4’10” and tying for 10th place.

Kyler Dennison was 13th in the 300 meters with a personal best of 43.88 seconds.

Abby Richardson placed 19th in the 2 mile with a time of 13:44.90.

The 4×200 meter relay team of Gurley Joseph, Palic, Dennison and Hartigan placed 16th in 1:55.49.

The 4×800 meter relay team of Sallee, Ferrell, Laurel Renzi and Wilcox placed 3rd in a time of 10:12.86.

Up next is the Meet of Champions where Wakefield fans will most likely see Wilcox in the 1000 meters and possibly a qualifier from the 4×800 meter relay team.
