TEWKSBURY — Some members of the North Reading-Andover High co-op gymnastics team participated in the  MIAA State Individuals at Tewksbury High on President’s Day.

Only the top 10 in each of the four events or in the all-around receive medals.

The lone Warnet to medal was Kelsie Berry as the North Reading freshman placed sixth on the balance beam with a 9.2.

“She was a late addition,” pointed out Warnets head coach Marlena Bresnick, as Berry only found out that day that she qualified. “She nailed her routine and it made for a special moment.”

Another North Reading 9th-grader, Alex Lee, placed 16th in the all-around with a score of 35.475. There were 37 total competitors in the all-around.

“Considering that she is just a freshman, she did very well,” said Bresnick.

On Feb. 22, the Warnets will travel to Algonquin Regional High School to compete in the North Sectionals with that meet starting at 10 a.m.

Only the top 12 schools in the North get to go.

The Warnets are seeded fifth at 140.3125.

Only the top four teams will advance to the state finals which will be on March 1 also at Algonquin as they will join the top four teams in the South for the eight team final.

“We have a good chance of advancing if we can hit our routines,” said Bresnick.

In the regular season, the Warnets came in second place in the Merrimack Valley Conference going 7-1. Their lone loss was to the league champions, undefeated Central Catholic, who is also the defending state champions.
