MELROSE — Mayor Jen Grigoraitis announced today that the City of Melrose will host a community celebration commemorating the 175th anniversary of Melrose’s incorporation as an independent town on May 3 at 10 a.m. at Melrose Memorial Hall, 590 Main St.
This free, family-friendly “birthday party” for the community is expected to include exhibits on local history, an interactive and collaborative community art project led by Follow Your Art Community Studios, a recognition of past and present volunteers and officials in Melrose civic life, birthday cake and activities for kids.

The Melrose 175 birthday party is funded by $4,000 allotted by the City by the federal government under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The event planning committee, led by the office of Mayor Jen Grigoraitis includes City Councilor Cal Finocchiaro; Historical Commission Chair Shane Egan; Memorial Hall Director Kathy Pigott-Brodeur; Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Stephanie Nelson; Sam Hammar for the Melrose Creative Alliance; and Melrose residents Joan Cassidy, Brad Hutchinson and Kris Rodolico.
