David C. Savage, 82

Retired pilot

LYNNFIELD — David C. Savage, 82, passed away peacefully on Feb. 22, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on July 4, 1942 to Warren and Mary Savage, David discovered a love of flying while in high school that shaped the course of his life. After obtaining his pilot’s license at 17 (before obtaining his driver’s license), David reached for the sky as a pilot for the U.S. Marine Corps, commercial and corporate airlines, private citizens, and family and friends. His deep love for the air was accompanied by a passion for teaching and service. He was a longtime flight instructor for Beverly Flight Center, as well as a member of the Civil Air Patrol as both a teenager and as an adult. He logged over 35,000 hours in the air, and could identify almost any modern aircraft on sight. He always had an eye to the sky, even when he had his feet on the ground.

David is survived by his wife Barbara, his three sons and their families, including three beloved grandchildren.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Friday, March 7 at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield, from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 127 Summer Street, Lynnfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
