U.S. Air Force veteran enjoyed the outdoors
LYNNFIELD — George Franklin Hayden, 75, of Lynnfield, passed away at Kaplan Family Hospice House on Feb. 11, 2025.
George was born on Oct. 12, 1949 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in Durham. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. George later studied Business Administration at Boston University. He went on to a career in health care administration, bringing on line the first Asian long-term care facility in Boston’s Chinatown. He continued to work in management, holding positions in operations and finance for local and national businesses in long-term care.
George loved being in the outdoors. He spent a lot of time hiking, skiing, camping, gardening, undertaking household projects and traveling. He shared his love of the outdoors by camping, hiking and skiing with his children. In retirement, he volunteered weekly at Summer Street School until COVID-19. He was an active member of Centre Congregational Church, serving for many years as a Deacon and member of the Parish Council.
George is predeceased by his parents Franklin J. Hayden and Dorothy M. Hayden (Lear); and his brother Dr. Frederick L. Hayden. He was the loving husband of Perry (Chang) Hayden; and the loving father of William J. Hayden of Brooklyn, New York; and Kara M. Hayden of Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his brother Tom Hayden and his wife, Mary, of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister Marilyn Brison and her husband, Tom, of Hooksett, New Hampshire; his sister-in-law Vivia Chang of Towson, Maryland; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Per his request, George will be cremated with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at Centre Congregational Church, Lynnfield. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield, MA 01940 or to support brain cancer research at MGH Development Office, Attn: Heidi Bergmeyer, Brain Cancer Research Fund of Dr Jorg Dietrich, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.
