WAKEFIELD — Five members of the Northeast Metro Tech hockey team made the Commonwealth Athletic Conference All-Star team this season.
The five Golden Knights to make the team are Joe Hurley (defenseman), George MacKinnon (forward), Will Baker (goalie), Ryan Beede (defenseman) and Mario Armata (forward).
For Hurley, this is his second year in a row on the team.
“He was also awarded the SEMOS Award for Best Defenseman in the Commonwealth Conference,” pointed out Golden Knights head coach Brian Capistran, about the senior captain.
Hurley had 10 points with three goals and seven assists.
This is the third-consecutive season for MacKinnon, another senior, to make the team.
“He finished his varsity career with an impressive 114 points,” said Capistran.
MacKinnon led the team in points this year with 40 as he had 14 goals and 26 assists.
For Baker, it is his first All-Star team appearance as he went 9-5 with a 2.20 goals-against average.
“He recorded three shutouts this season, providing a solid presence between the pipes,” said Capistran, about the junior netminder.
It is also the first All-Star appearance for Beede, who is from Wakefield.
“He is a key part of our defense with a bright future ahead in his next two seasons,” said Capistran, about the sophomore blue-liner.
Beede had seven goals and seven assists this year for 14 points.
For Armata, it was his second year on the list as he made it as a sophomore last winter.
“He is a strong leader and key contributor on both ends of the ice,” said Capistran, about the junior assistant captain.
Armata had 27 points with a team-high 15 goals and 12 assists.
This season, the Knights reached the MIAA Division 4 Round of 16 before losing to Dover-Sherborn by a final of 4-1.
They ended up at 14-8 overall.
In the Commonwealth Athletic Conference, they finished in second place to Shawsheen Tech going 6-2 with their only league losses coming to the Rams.
Along with Beede, the other Knight from Wakefield is junior forward Cash Kearney who had 17 points this winter with nine goals and eight assists.
