MELROSE — Gillian Elizabeth Mail (née Hallam), known affectionately as Gill, passed away peacefully on March 11 in Melrose at the age of 86. Born on July 24, 1938 in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, UK, Gill was a cherished member of the community and a beacon of warmth and generosity.
Gill dedicated many years of her life to her career as a Senior Secretary impacting lives at the Kingston and Richmond Family Courts in Surrey, UK and earlier at the Trowbridge Town Hall in Wiltshire. Her professionalism and kindness left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside her.
A devout member of St. Augustine Church of England in Twickenham, UK, Gill lived her faith through her actions, embodying the values of love and service which were central to her life.
Gillian’s passions included travel, gardening, flower arranging and indulging in her love for puzzles. She cherished her time spent going for coffee and pastry and enjoyed the quintessential British tradition of Afternoon Tea. These simple joys brought great fulfillment to her life alongside the love of her family and her beloved dog Latte.

She is survived by her sons Steven and Robert Mail; daughter-in-law Michelle Mail; grandchildren Victoria and Matthew Mail; brothers Bob and Duncan Hallam; sister-in-law Patricia Hallam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gill was predeceased by her loving husband Colin Mail; father George Hallam; mother Kathleen Hallam; and sister-in-law Jill Hallam.

Gillian will be flown back to the UK for a memorial service and celebration of her life with family and friends. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband Colin in a ceremony that promises to be as heartfelt as the life she led.
