Warrior girls’ hoop celebrates season at banquet

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High girls’ basketball team celebrated their season at the annual banquet recently.

The Warriors had a terrific campaign, finishing 15-5 in the regular season and winning the Middlesex League Freedom Division title for the fourth consecutive season.

Wakefield earned a No. 16 seed in the Div. 2 state tournament fell to No. 17 Bishop Fenwick in a close, first round game.

Head coach Jason Pavey, who was honored at the banquet for securing his 100th career victory this season — all at WMHS — handed out four awards at the banquet to senior captains Jade Waterhouse (Warrior Award), Brooklyn Calder (MVP) and Shea Suntken (Defensive Player of the Year) along with sophomore Keira O’Brien (Most Improved).

The Warriors also celebrated their three Middlesex League All-Stars: Calder (Three-time All-Star), Suntken (Two-time All-Star) and junior Emma Ickes (First-time All-Star).
Calder, Suntken, Waterhouse and Aliza Margolis handed off captain duties to next year’s captains: Ickes, O’Brien and Bella Burns.
