WENHAM — The North Reading High girls’ lacrosse team lost to host Hamilton-Wenham, 13-4, at Gordon College on Sunday afternoon.
The loss was the second in a row for the Hornets as they fell to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the Cape Ann League.
North Reading hung in the game for three quarters before the Generals pulled away late.
“We were down 8-4 going into the fourth quarter and our defense was playing well,” said Hornets head coach Matt Costello. “They capitalized on our mistakes and we ran out of gas a little in the fourth.”
The offense struggled to get any rhythm.
“We made some silly turnovers,” said Costello.
All four Hornet goals were unassisted as Lindsey Rosenthal, Makenzie Murphy, Addison Hajj and Alaina Driscoll all scored.
Hornet goalie Cara Ward fell to 2-2 in net as she made eight saves.
Hamilton-Wenham improved to 3-0 overall and in the CAL.
On April 2, the Hornets lost, 16-7, at home to Newburyport.
The Clippers led this game 10-3 at the half as they outscored the Hornets, 6-4, in the second half.
“We had our trouble in the second quarter,” admitted Costello. “They have a great midfielder (Reece Bromby) who quarterbacked their team.”
Bromby is a UMass-Amherst commit.
Hajj led the Hornets in scoring with four goals. Rosenthal, Driscoll, and Murphy all found the back of the Clipper net once. Murphy and Mikaela O’Driscoll both had one assist.
Ward made nine saves in this game.
North Reading’s next game is on Thursday as they host Triton at 4:15 p.m. They then welcome Essex Tech on April 12 for a 10 a.m. start.
On April 15, the Hornets visit Pentucket with that game starting at 4:30 p.m.
