NORTH READING — After showcasing her sewing skills with dozens of charming handmade American Girl Doll garments in our collector case for the month of February, Lorna Allen is back with a striking display of quilts. This collection of nine quilts is only a sample of Lorna’s vast breadth of sewing work ranging in size, color, and motif. They will be on display on the third floor of the library through the end of April.

A true North Reading local, Lorna Allen, has been quilting for decades. In 2019, she aspired to complete 12 quilts, one for each month of the year, which she planned to alternate as her bedding. Since accomplishing this goal, Lorna has continued to quilt as a great therapeutic hobby that has aided her in overcoming difficult times of grief and recovery from surgery.

Lorna’s group of creative sewing friends, who she fondly referred to as “The Central Street Quilters,” often come to her for advice on their projects, particularly for her expertise in fabrics and color palettes. She explained that she loves color, and is able to visualize and match various colors to a pattern for her projects. When she works from an existing quilt pattern, Lorna sometimes deviates from the original color scheme, opting for her own twist on the piece.

Be sure to stop by the library and see them in person!
