Boys’ track team starts outdoor season with a win over Stoneham

LEXINGTON — The 2025 season kicked off for the Wakefield High boys’ track and field team with a 114-22 win over Stoneham on Wednesday at Lexington High School.  

Brody Wyatt opened up the meet in style with a school record in the first event, the 400 meter hurdles. Wyatt was close to the record as a sophomore but was injured all last spring. He didn’t waste any time in breaking Brett Tassinari’s record from 2012 of 58.1 by finishing in 1st with a new record time of 57.81.  

Sophomore Evan Buonopane-Cohen placed a strong 2nd with a time of 61.62. Aidan Martin completed the sweep with a time of 67.76.   

In the mile, Ethan Mezikofsky led the sweep with a personal best of 4:36.17. Sophomore Alec Buonopane-Cohen placed 2nd in 5:05.  Marcello Caruso was 3rd in 5:06.47.  

In the discus, Frankie Sullivan placed 2nd with a personal best of 116’8”. Sullivan also placed 2nd in the shot put with a 45’0.25.

In the javelin, Carter Jefferson threw a personal best of 145’10” leading a Warrior sweep. Sean Callanan was 2nd throwing 144’6”.   Henry Brown was 3rd with a throw of 130’4”.   

In the 100 meter dash, Isaac Melo placed 1st in a personal best of 11.78. Adam Levy was 2nd in 12.04.  

In the 110 meter hurdles, Aidan Martin had a convincing win with a time of 18.24. Jefferson was 2nd in 19.66.   

In the 400 meter dash, Wyatt placed 1st in 54.24. Sophomore Jackson Conley was 2nd in 54.14.  

In the 800 meters, Aidan Burd led the sweep with a personal best of 2:06.44. Evan Buonopane-Cohen was 2nd in 2:11.48. Jacob Ciriello was 3rd in 2:11.69.  

In the 200 meters, Isaac Melo won with a time of 23.84 and Edgard Meneguello was third with a time of 24.46.

In the 2 mile, Brandon Nett placed 1st in 10:21. Devin DeBeradinis was 2nd in 10:30. Max Viselli was 3rd in 10:31 to complete the Warrior sweep.

In the long jump, JaMauri Belmer was first with a jump of 20’8.75, Aidan Jones was second with a jump of 20’3.5 and Michael Mititchev was third with a jump of 18’3.5.

Belmer also took first in the triple jump with a jump of 43’3. Mitichev was second with a personal best of 36’6 and Wyatt Timas was third with a jump of 34’8.25.

Belmer got his third, first-place finish of the day in the high jump, taking the top spot with a personal best of 6’2.

The 4×100 meter relay team of Meneguello, Levy, Conley and Melo won with a time of 45.9.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Burd, Ciriello, Martin and Mezikofsky placed 1st in 3:43.25.  

The Warriors face Melrose next Wednesday, 4 p.m. at Woburn High.
