NRDTC Candidate forums tonight, April 17

NORTH READING — All voters are welcome to attend tonight’s “meet the candidates” event at the North Reading Town Hall gym hosted by the North Reading Democratic Town Committee from 7-9 p.m.

It is the first of two opportunities to meet the candidates in the annual Town Election. All candidates have been invited to attend by the NRDTC. Each candidate will be given the opportunity to make a statement and then will have equal time to take questions from voters.

About a week and a half later, the North Reading Republican Town Committee will be holding its  Candidates Night on Tuesday, April 29 at Kitty’s Restaurant, 123 Main St., in the rear function room. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

The NRRTC has sponsored “Candidates Night” since 2018 to give voters the opportunity to get to know candidates wishing to represent them.

“The local level of representation is just as important as the national arena, many times even more so, since the decisions have a direct impact on property values, children’s education, town stability and growth,” stated NRRTC Chairman Jeff Yull.

“There are five new candidates who will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and share their vision for North Reading. There are seven incumbents who can talk about the exciting activity generated during their term.” The order in which candidates will speak will be announced in next week’s Transcript.

All candidates have been invited to both events. They are:

Select Board: Incumbent Rich Wallner and new candidates Jeff Griffin, Catherine Morrin and Michael Scarlata.

Community Planning Commission (CPC) two-year term: appointed incumbent CPC member Ed Sheehan and challenger Jonathan Coste

CPC three-year terms: Incumbents Dave Rudloff and Warren Pearce

School Committee: Incumbents Noelle Rudloff and Jeff Friedman

Town Moderator: Incumbent John Murphy

Housing Authority: New candidate Charles Carucci.
