Voters pick new members of Town Council, SC too

WAKEFIELD — Several new faces and a couple of familiar ones will help oversee the town’s operation over the next three years as voters made their decisions yesterday in the 2025 Town Election.

Town Councilor Edward F. Dombroski will be the next Town Treasurer, Christian K. Lopes will remain a Constable, Stacy S. Constas and John F. Crisley will join the Town Council and Alexander Naumann is a new School Committee member. Also, Kristin Maria Weekley is now a five-year member of the Planning Board and Karen Anne Sadler is a Beebe Library trustee.

About 11.2 percent of the town’s 20,735 registered voters participated in yesterday’s election, which only featured two contests for seats.

Dombroski was the victor in a four-person race to succeed John J. McCarthy Jr. as Town Treasurer. His 784 votes topped Michael J. McLane’s 661, Andrew McCarthy’s 578 and Peter McManama’s 284.

Dombroski said, “I am honored and humbled that the voters of Wakefield have placed their trust in me to serve as our next Town Treasurer. I also want to recognize the talented pool of candidates in this hard-fought race.

The years ahead will bring both significant challenges and unparalleled opportunities for our town. Working alongside the dedicated team in the Treasurer’s office, and in close collaboration with Wakefield’s other financial leaders, I am committed to securing a strong financial future for our community during this time of significant change.

“I will continue to safeguard your taxpayer dollars and serve as the transparent, accountable financial steward our residents deserve.”

Dombroski’s election to the Town Treasurer post creates a vacant seat on the Town Council. He had one year left to serve.

Incumbent Constable Christian Lopes rose to the challenge of Michael J. Vitelli, beating his opponent 1,315 to 583.

In an Item Forum letter today, Lopes wrote, in part, “I first started Constable work when I was 20 years old thanks to the Wakefield community. Although I had a lot to learn, I took pride in my work, and strived to do the best I could. Now at age 27, and with a lot more knowledge under my belt, I get the privilege of continuing to serve Wakefield for another three years. Being a Constable is not a flashy job, and most times it’s the last person you want to hear knocking at your door.

“During my term I promise to carry on providing the utmost respect and empathy when people need it most. Thank you all once again for trusting me to serve as Constable of Wakefield.”

Stacy Constas and John Crisley were elected yesterday to join the Town Council. Incumbent Jonathan Chines was reelected as well.

School Committee members Kevin Fontanella and Thomas F. Markham III were reelected. Alexander Naumann joins them on the school board.

Brian Donegan ran unopposed for reelection to the Board of Assessors.

Thomas H. Boettcher and Sharon Squillace Daly were reelected to the Municipal Gas & Light Commission.

Elaine Silva ran unopposed for the Board of Health.

Kristin Maria Weekly was elected to the five year term on the Planning Board.

Karen Anne Sadler was elected to the Board of Library Trustees and will join incumbents Christopher M. Barrett and Jeffrey M. Quinn, who were also on the 2025 Town Election ballot.
