Boys’ lax falls to Ipswich, preps for two more road games

IPSWICH — On April 17, the North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team lost, 13-7, at Ipswich. That defeat snapped the Hornets’ four-game winning streak as they fell to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Cape Ann League.

The Tigers, meanwhile, improved to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the CAL.

“We didn’t come off the bus in that first quarter,” said Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso, as his squad trailed, 9-1, after the opening 12 minutes.

“They are a very good team and they were much better than us that day.”

PJ Conte led the Hornet offense with three goals. Brendan Gazda and Finn Rodger each had four points as each player had two goals and two assists.

Dylan O’Driscoll also chipped in one assist.

Hornet goalie, David Tran, made nine saves as he fell to 4-2 in net.

Finn Wright led the Tigers with five goals and two assists. Vin Winter was second in scoring with four goals.

The next game for the Hornets will be on April 24 as they visit Wakefield. That non-league game will start at 10 a.m.

North Reading returns to CAL action on April 28 as they visit Essex Tech. Two days later, they host Newburyport.

The Essex Tech game will start at 4 p.m. while the Newburyport game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
