MELROSE — As part of Melrose’s 175th birthday celebration and in partnership with the Beebe Estate Association and Trustees, the historic Beebe Estate will host a charming Victorian Garden Party on Saturday, May 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. This elegant afternoon event at 235 West Foster St. will feature a variety of activities that highlight both the artistic and historical spirit of Melrose.
Three artists will bring the inside of the Beebe to life. Local watercolor artist Sofia Diana Creations will transform one of the estate’s rooms into a gallery, showcasing her delicate work including her popular hand-painted cards as well as her home portraits which can be booked for a special 10% discount during the event. In another room, Hannah Alice Costumes will present a stunning display of handmade Victorian-era clothing and hats, offering attendees the opportunity to place custom orders for authentic garments ranging from the ninth century through the early 20th century. In the grand room of the estate will be an interactive gallery presenting the life and legacy of Melrosian Mary Livermore. Creator Florence Lee will be on hand to discuss one of Melrose’s most influential historical figures.
Guests can also look forward to Afternoon Treats featuring tea or lemonade depending on the weather and treats served throughout the afternoon, a perfect opportunity to enjoy refreshments in the picturesque garden setting.
The Melrose Creative Alliance will produce a city-wide activity map for the day highlighting the City’s Celebration at Memorial Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Beebe Estate Garden Party from 1 to 4 p.m., multiple retailers and restaurants’ offerings and the Make Way for Cygnets event at the Gazebo.
